Virtual Cookie Bake-Off / Exchange & Food Drive

The holidays are a time for giving thanks, honoring family traditions (or starting new ones!), and giving with intention. This holiday season, we’ve put together an event that combines all of the above.

For many of us, the holidays aren’t complete without a cookie exchange, and everyone loves a good baking contest. so we will be hosting a virtual contest on Sunday, December 12th while also collecting non-perishable food items for The Capital Area Food Bank. Please participate in one or both parts!

monika-grabkowska-ITixmXwUsJY-unsplash.jpg

The Details:

  • Every contestant needs to deliver 12 cookies of their choice to 2480 16th Street NW between Saturday 12/11 at 9am and Sunday 12/12 at 5pm.

  • We’re also asking people to drop off non-perishable food items that will be collected and dropped to The Capital Area Food Bank the following day. Here’s some detail on most needed items for collection.

  • On Sunday evening at 7pm, tune in to the LIVE Zoom event where all contestants will be judged by 3 judges based on the following criteria:

    • Shape, Color, Uniform Appearance, Texture, and Flavor

  • The winner will receive bragging rights and a $200 donation will go to their charity of their choice!

  • After the event, we will make up cookie boxes with the remaining cookies and they will be delivered to all who have submitted their cookies for the challenge or exchange!

FAQ:

  1. I can’t bake but I want to participate in the cookie exchange! Can I still join? A: Yes! Just drop off a dozen of a cookie you love (plop some pre-made cookie dough on a sheet pan if you’d like but please no oreos or keebler cookies!) and you can exchange HOWEVER you will not be entered into the bake-off contest.

  2. I’m out of town the weekend of cookie drop-off! What can I do? A: Sign up and we’ll help figure it out for you. No stress — cookies are supposed to be fun, not stressful.

  3. Can I help judge? A: Sadly no, we are all set with our 3 judges for this year, but we are open to guest judges next year!

Roller Disco and Picnic Party

9.11 @ 9:30am - ALL TICKETS HAVE BEEN ASSIGNED!

If you’d still like to join, details on where to buy tickets are below!

We take our next event to Virginia for a good ol’ fashioned picnic + rollerskating party! Let’s celebrate the end of Summer by slapping on some skates and hopefully not breaking our faces. And for those of you who fear the latter, we’re going to first picnic together before skating, so everyone can join regardless of how they feel about rolling around a rink on 8 wheels.

Details:

4pm - 6:30pm: Picnicing and general hanging out in Strawberry Park, just adjacent to the outdoor skating rink. We’ll be supplying plenty of blankets so we can all sit together, along with some light snacks (but feel free to pack a picnic basket for you and your crew!)

6:30 - 7:30pm: THIS IS FIRST COME FIRST SERVED. Skateland has timed roller skating tickets in limited amounts during each time slot, and we have purchased 20 in advance for guests starting at 6:30pm. If you are coming, please RSVP, and if you aren’t sure you can commit, you can also wait and buy your own ticket directly HERE . If you do RSVP below to snag a free ticket, please keep in mind that bailing would really be a bummer for those who want one and commit to making it.

7:30 - 10pm: We’ll retire back to the picnic spot for some more hanging out and should there be enough interest, we can move on to a local restaurant or bar.

Reserve your spot:

She has won numerous competitions, features, awards, and write-ups due to her creativity and storytelling that she embodies in her cocktail making.

Swill Merchants Co. provides curated cocktail classes based on you and your clients’ preferences. Always with a smile and a Dad joke. Rosner most frequently hosts corporate office and realtor team meetings, client events or happy hours, fundraisers and auctions. She also enjoys casual friends and family happy hours, birthdays, bachelor(ette) parties, ladies weekends, random Tuesdays in February, etc.

Cocktail classes begin with Sarah Rosner offering a few reasons why you may want to listen to her (and so no latecomers miss the important parts).  Classes also include a general history of cocktails, while fully nerding out on the cocktails made and spirits used, with a rundown of basic bar tools and theorize on how we really taste. Throughout, she will answer cocktail, spirit, life, and bar/restaurant ordering etiquette questions and, of course, make the cocktails with you and your attendees.

We will provide a virtual invite with a zoom link, recipe cards and shopping list, along with suggested ice, glassware and tools that you will need (including examples of simple substitutes).

Cocktail Kits

Average Price: $50 which will be dropped off by Alison (within the beltway only!)
